About Karen Malyon

About Me

I’m a wife, mum, and lifelong educator with over 30 years of experience across the Early Years and Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) sectors—spanning three continents and countless communities. My work has always centred around one purpose: creating meaningful experiences that nurture children’s well-being and empower the adults who guide them.

As the founder of Kindy services in

South Africa, England, and Australia

a national team leader for corporate education initiatives, I’ve had the privilege of leading transformative programs like the JAG "Whole of Child" philosophy—helping shape state and national approaches to education and care.

Through Perch: Building Resilience Together, I now work closely with educators, parents, and leaders to address one of the most pressing needs in our field: supporting ‘Big Behaviours’ and building true resilience within ourselves, our children, and our systems.

My belief is that real, lasting change begins with what I call Mental Fitness: the ability to understand ourselves deeply, ask meaningful questions, and take intentional steps toward growth.

Because before we can change the world around us, we must first strengthen the world within us.

From designing sensory-friendly environments to leading inclusive teams and delivering impactful workshops, my approach is grounded in collaboration, reflection, and practical tools that reduce overwhelm, prevent burnout, and foster strong connections.

Together, I believe we can create resilient communities and leave a legacy of compassion, courage, and growth for the next generation of thinkers, leaders, and citizens.
